Integrated Multipurpose Processing Systems (IMPS & Missile Assembly Plan (MAP)

Paladin provides design, development, implementation, enhancements and operations & maintenance (O&M) technical services for IMPS and MAP. These applications support the Trident II (D5) Weapon System Missile assembly/disassembly operations at Eastern Range (ER) in Cape Canaveral, FL and the Naval Submarine Bases – Kings Bay, Georgia and Bangor, Washington. IMPS and MAP are deployed in a cloud computing concept within a corporate internet from centralized servers located on the East Coast. The effort is accomplished through extensive teaming with Lockheed Martin.

MAP produces and manages the documentation utilized for assembly, disassembly, repair and rework for the D5 Missile. The system provides disciplined configuration management of these executable XML documents that are electronic instances of Work Instructions and Work Elements. Complete version control and historical data is maintained.. The XML Work Instructions and Work Elements are executed in IMPS which provide electronic procedures at the point of work, with real time data collection, workflow, business rules enforcement, production planning, process exceptions, contractor and government QA functions. Paladin was responsible for the design and architecture of IMPS. The design architecture for IMPS focused on Oracle architecture and employed software development using a J2EE environment. The majority of IMPS functionality is supported using Microsoft Internet Explorer as the IMPS viewer, Microsoft XML Parser version 4.0 for XML data handling and Adobe Acrobat for viewing PDF documents.

This system is paperless from the point of procedural development, review approval and release to the production floor through data collection and distribution. This is an extremely complex set of systems utilizing state of the art software. This project consisted of performing extensive business practice analysis, technical research and development in cutting edge technologies, Commercial Off-The Shelf software (COTS) integration along with customized software development. Paladin provides engineering disciplines and technical development support of new and existing capabilities and systems.

MAP provides stringent configuration management of technical documentation, both current and historical. The XML documents produced by MAP are executed in (IMPS) Integrated Multipurpose Processing System which provides paperless procedures at the point of work, with real time data collection, workflow, business rules enforcement, production planning, process exceptions, contractor and government QA functions, etc. The application interfaces with the Lockheed Martin Corporation Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP SAP/R3) Supply Chain, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO), and Quality modules.

The software is separated into three distinct layers: Presentation, Business Services and Data Services. The Presentation layer is comprised of a “thin” Web-client (Microsoft Internet Explorer) and a standards-based Web server. The Presentation layer is responsible for generating and rendering the viewable application content such as text and images. The Business Services layer is a “middle tier” design that separates the configurable business rules from the content. This level of separation enables business rules to be changed to reflect current business processes and does not impact the Presentation layer. Additionally, the Business Services layer can be scaled across many servers to improve performance or offload computationally intensive tasks. The Data Services layer supports the storage, retrieval and integrity of application data.
